On the first day of his classes, Pscyhology Professor Charles Catania tells his students that their learning is in what they do and not in what he does. That's why he gives them frequent exercises such as online quizzes and essays on Blackboard. "I think of my students as active learners rather than as vessels to be filled with knowledge. Students learn what they do, and using online tools like Blackboard is one way of getting them to do it." Find out how Catania came to this view of pedagogy over decades of collaboration with his late friend and colleague Eliot Shimoff and hear about some of the ways he gets his students to learn. |
